Scale model of the Texel Roads
The model of the Texel Roads in the Maritime and Beachcombers Museum portrays the situation on the Texel Roads, which were so important for shipping in the VOC (Dutch East India Company) era. This mega-scale model is formidable 18 x 4 m. It is a unique project in which the model makers based their designs predominantly on paintings by the 17th century maritime painters, father and son Willem van der Velde.
The model of the Texel Roads shows in great detail the magnificent spectacle it must have been to see hundreds of vessels near the coasline of Texel.
This impressive scale model comes to life with lights, sound and speech.
