Spoonbillcolony De Geul the largest in the Netherlands

On Saturday 3 March, the first 17 Spoonbills that have returned to the colony in the Geul, were spotted.
The birds hibernate in, among other countries Mauritania. From the second part of March, the Spoonbills arrive in greater numbers. The Geul has the largest colony in the Netherlands. In 2012 400 pairs have made a nest here.
Excursion
There's an observation-post on the Mokweg. To give more people the opportunity to look at the Spoonbill colony, the State Forestry Service organizes excursions several times a week.
