Sea voyages have always held a great attraction to the inhabitants of Texel. In the local history museum de Oudheidkamer in Den Burg you can see the consequences this had for the families that stayed behind on shore. For example Aagje Luijtsen, a young seaman's wife who wrote countless letters to her beloved husband whilst he was away at sea. The beautiful traditional building in which the Oudheidkamer is housed is worth a visit in itself. The authentically furnished interior gives a good impression of how people on Texel used to live in centuries past.
