If you’re looking for somewhere special to be together this Christmas, where you can sample good food and wander through a wintry countryside, Texel is the place for you.
Christmas on Texel is a truly wonderful time. This festive season brings plenty of things to enjoy here on our island. We have five tips for you:
1. Dine out at a dinner show
Enjoy a 3-course meal while watching this vibrant dinner show. At Theater & Restaurant De Toegift @Klif 12, the Christmas show is a delicious evening with plenty of amusement between courses.
2. Visit the tiny churches of Texel
Most of the churches on the island are lovingly decorated for the festive season. Certainly, the church at Den Hoorn and the Seamen’s Church in Oudeschild are well worth a visit. The Seamen’s Church contains the famous copper chandeliers donated by renowned Dutch admiral, Michiel de Ruyter. On 20 December, this church will be the venue of a joint Christmas concert by Oudeschild’s fishermen’s choir and the music group from Artex.
3. Songs around the Christmas tree
On Christmas Eve, the residents of De Koog and their guest will gather around the enormous Christmas tree on Dorpsplein to sing songs. Why not join in or just come and listen?
4. Blow away the cobwebs in the Texel countryside
Winter is the perfect season for wandering through our beautiful wintry countryside or for feeling the wind in your hair as you walk along the beach. It’s great to go out into Texel’s great outdoors and then enjoy a mug of hot chocolate in one of the beach cafés.
5. Christmas shopping
For a real sense of Christmas, you should visit one of our charming villages. The shops in bathing resort De Koog are opened every Sunday and Sunday 24 December is Shopping Sunday in Den Burg too. If you need to do a spot of last-minute shopping, why not have a look round?
