A visit to Texel in spring will perhaps reveal the island in its most beautiful season and if you are on the bike, you have even more opportunity to watch the lambs that populate Texel’s meadows and to view the bulbs fields as they burst into colour. The free bike trails will guide you along the right paths.
VVV Texel’s Little Lambs bike trail is a 35-kilometre path along the areas of island with the most sheep, so it’s even more fun to go in spring when the lambs fill the meadows! The accompanying booklet also answers all conceivable questions about the breed of Texel sheep and lambing. For instance, do you know the best way of getting a sheep back on its feet or what the daubs of colour on their fleeces mean?

Many people are surprised when they see that Texel is absolutely full of colourful bulb fields in the spring. Around 200 hectares of Texel’s surface area is used for bulbs. Due to the huge success of previous years, you can still ride along the Texel Bulb-Field trail from April to about mid-May. The Texel bulb growers have set out two trails along acres of bulbs in bloom: one in the south and one in the north. To add to the fun, there is a specially planted pick-your-own flower garden. The Bulb-Field bike trail is available for printing (PDF).
