Even in the winter holidays, there’s lots of exciting things to do for children on Texel. We have a selected a few of them for you here:
In the winter, the shelter at Ecomare often cares for grey seal pups, which you can go and see. And there are plenty of extra activities for children there too: why not visit the sea lab or take in a puppet show?
The whole family can take part in the New Year’s Dip in the sea at De Koog, De Cocksdorp or Den Hoorn. But if that’s a little too chilly for you, you can share the fun of this refreshing start to the New Year as a spectator!
A walk in the woods will be a favourite among young children’s if you take the Sommeltjespad; Texel Sommeltjes (gnomes) will show you the way.
At Schipbreuk- en Juttersmuseum Flora, the beach-combing and shipwreck museum, children can go on a treasure hunt, play games and clamber in and out of a fishing boat and a rescue pod. They are guaranteed to amuse themselves in the playground with its play tower, the family swing, stand-up see-saw and the 30-metre cable ride.
You’ll be amazed by the 40 species of animals and over 350 birds, the butterfly garden and the aviary at Texel Zoo.
There’s a playtime paradise at Holiday Park De Krim; you are welcome even if you are not staying at the park. The same applies to their other facilities such as the bowling alleys, glow-in-the-dark-golf and laser games.
At Kaap Skil, the museum with a focus on beachcombers and mariners, children can craft and draw. On Wednesday, the millers operate De Traanroeier grain mill. Tip: on 3 January, they’ll be making some delicious pancakes!
