Texel has a large number or interesting museums, which regularly put on new exhibitions. From interesting stories from the past to contemporary art. A short guide to the very latest exhibitions to run on Texel from spring 2019 onwards follows below.
The new exhibition here, Van chirurgijn tot dokter Waverijn, is all about doctors on Texel and how their profession has evolved over the centuries. The exhibition will run up to and including 31 October 2019.
This wonderful exhibition is designed to showcase the many birds that spend the summer months in the Extreme North and the winter months in our region. The 19 photos, all taken by photographer Wim van Passel, will grace the walls of the Bird Floor in Ecomare up to and including 27 October 2019.
Paintings, ceramics, sculptures and jewellery: various Texel artists exhibit their works of art at De Peperhof. Exhibitions change regularly, are free to look around and will be hosted in the former Reformed Church in Oosterend up to and including 26 October 2019.
Go along to the Kaap Skil museum to see a beautiful gilt silver cup that lay forgotten at the bottom of the sea for almost 400 years! This unique find is part of the Pronkstuk uit het Palmhoutwrak (‘Showpiece from the Palmhout wreck’) exhibition, which will run until 3 November 2019.
Why not also take the time to visit the entrance building at Waddenhaven Texel and see the Opgevist, aangespoeld of opgedoken (‘fished out, washed up or resurfaced’) mini exhibition being held there? This wonderful presentation is the ideal way for water sports fans to find out all about the special history of the harbour and the Wadden Sea.
The museums on Texel are running a number of long-term and permanent exhibitions too. Check out the aviation and war museum Luchtvaart- en Oorlogsmuseum until the end of October 2019, Museum Galerie RAT, Galerie en Beeldentuin De Weezenplaats and De Eiland Galerij.
