Working as a sculptor on Texel is, according to Hendrien, "I am living my dream". Hendrien comes to the island from an early age and learned to walk here. She kept coming back and is now permanently settled here. Inspiration from Texel She finds her inspiration on the island and works on her sculptures in peace and freedom. The theme of her sculptures has been related to women and freedom for many years: female torsos form a large part of her work. Important sources of inspiration for Hendrien are Brancusi, Barbara Hepworth, Ewalt Mataré, Jan Pater and the modern Northern Italian woodcarvers such as Aron Demetz. Hendrien is a member of the artist associations Zout (Texel) and Artes (Bussum) Art forms The shape, the language and the skin fascinate Hendrien. She also creates images related to the sea. She likes clear shapes and clean lines. You can call it minimalist figurative. Her images often invite the viewer to touch, feel and cherish. At that moment there is contact between the sculptor and the viewer, a nice extra dimension. Hendrien works in wood and stone (alabaster, serpentine, marble and granite), both challenging materials. She investigates special wood finishes and likes to combine them with other materials such as metal, plastic, plaster or wool.
