Even in the winter holidays, there’s lots of exciting things to do for children on Texel. We have a selected a few of them for you here:
In the winter, the shelter at Ecomare often cares for grey seal pups, which you can go and see. During the Christmas holidays there are extra activities for children, such as viewing the treasures from the beach find cart or become a real researcher in the sea laboratory. Ecomare is open every day except December 25 and January 1.
The whole family can take part in the New Year’s Dip in the sea at De Koog, De Cocksdorp or Den Hoorn. But if that’s a little too chilly for you, you can share the fun of this refreshing start to the New Year as a spectator!
A walk in the woods will be a favourite among young children’s if you take the Sommeltjespad; Texel Sommeltjes (gnomes) will show you the way.
This Christmas holiday De Oudheidkamer in Den Burg will open five afternoons to let everyone taste the old-fashioned Christmas atmosphere. The Oudheidkamer is open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, except on Sundays and public holidays.
You’ll be amazed by the 40 species of animals and over 350 birds, the butterfly garden and the aviary at Texel Zoo.
There’s a indoor playground at Holiday Park De Krim; you are welcome even if you are not staying at the park. The same applies to their other facilities such as the bowling alleys, glow-in-the-dark-golf and laser games.
At Kaap Skil, the museum with a focus on beachcombers and mariners, children can craft and draw. On Thursday, the millers operate De Traanroeier grain mill. Kaap Skil is open every day, except 25 December and 1 January.
