Texel’s eastern coast – where the island borders on the Wadden Sea – is relatively quiet, although our island’s mudflat coast is certainly worth exploration.
Here are three tips for special outings to help you explore Texel’s mudflats:
From the port of Oudeschild you can take a trip across the Wadden Sea. There are several boats that offer a seal trip to the sandbanks in the Wadden Sea where the seals like to stay. Often, these creatures are very curious and are brave enough to swim close to the boats.
Oysters are there for the picking on Texel’s mudflats; you only need to know where to look. Texel’s oyster man Martin leads excursions to the best oyster spots along the Wadden Dyke. And then, of course, you’ll have the opportunity to sample the oysters. It’s certainly a pleasurable way of passing your time in the Wadden Sea region!
RIBs are Rigid Inflatable Boats: seaworthy, inflatable boats. Equipped with one or more powerful motors, these RIBs become highly manoeuvrable speedboats. On Texel, you can take a trip on these powerboats, which race with 350 HP across the mudflats. It’s a unique experience!
