"An ode to the forgotten Portuguese countryside". The Portuguese-Rotterdam singer Magda Mendes presents her new songs in the church of De Waal. With her new album Oliveiras, she is taking a new path, leaving the city. Together with Ward Veenstra she wrote songs that give voice to stories that have escaped the fire. The self-written songs are situated in the countryside of central Portugal. A region that recently made the news because it was plagued by various forest fires. A forgotten region whose history is in danger of disappearing.
Guitarist and co-composer Ward Veenstra will introduce the listeners to various Portuguese string instruments that will ensure that they are taken on a journey through Portugal sung by Magda.
The cinematic nature of the program is enhanced by two special classical musicians. On harp Astrid Haring and on bass trombone Brandt Attema.
