Theo has been our Controller since May 2026. He has overall responsibility for the entire financial administration, including all cash flows from our booking platform.
“My role as Controller includes ensuring accurate financial recording, setting up and improving processes and interfaces between the various software systems, preparing monthly and annual reports, and providing the management team with both solicited and unsolicited support in financial matters. This also involves liaising with external parties and stakeholders, as it’s so nicely put. It’s an enjoyable job with plenty of variety, and I get to work with a great, enthusiastic team. The VVV is a familiar place for me; I’ve visited it in the past to book holiday homes and have worked with the VVV as a partner in a number of different contexts.”
Village: that’s ‘Strend’, of course, as we call it – a lovely place to live, with a thriving village life including an active Village Committee and Community Centre, a festival committee and various activities centred around fish smoking, cycling, running and, once every five years, Oosterend Present… that’s a very special experience to be part of, a real village event.
Texel word: ‘eendekukeltjesweer’ (duckling weather), because it’s lovely, and a ‘sproes’ (wooden beam), which has been used a lot in recent years for renovations.
Shop: I’m not really one for shopping, but I do like popping into Pier 53 and Smakelijk & meer, just as I do at Bosma for homeware and bedding.
Nature reserve: the beaches next to the bird sanctuaries
Day out: going out on the Bruuzer (I always enjoy that with guests and friends), but walking the dog on the beach during a winter storm… lovely! Just to clear my head 😊
Texel speciality: ‘juttertje’ and Texel gin
Island bird: a spoonbill is special; the way it forages for food is fascinating…
Island animal: definitely the sheep. Lovely character and a beautifully defiant stance when it stands like this. Head in the wind, legs bent and unafraid – it suits the Texel local perfectly.
