Doopsgezinde Vermaning

This Mennonite church is located on the edge of the center of Den Burg. The church dates from the 18th century and was originally built as a shelter church. Every Sunday the service of the Baptist congregation takes place in this church. History From about 1530 there were Mennonites on Texel. In 1742 Den Burg had two Mennonite churches, namely a Frisian one on the Kogerstraat and a Flemish-Waterland one on the Nieuwstraat; the latter was sold in 1772. In 1882 the church was expanded, with the foundation stone being laid by Herman Bakels on July 15 of that year. Monument In 1976 the church was included in the register of monuments as a national monument. Strender Vermaning In addition to the church in Den Burg, there was also a Mennonite church at Peperstraat 26 in Oosterend. This is currently the Strender Vermaning, the foundation is committed to managing, preserving and exploiting the former church.
