Sunday, September 28, 2025 To commemorate the 600th anniversary of the Den Hoorn village church, a concert will be held in that church on Sunday afternoon, September 28, 2025, at 3:00 PM by Arie Abbenes on the Scheuer organ, accompanied by Evelien Berbee, percussion, and Phili Welten, narrator. The program consists of religiously inspired music from the Netherlands, France, Germany, and Italy from the 16th to the 19th centuries and includes works by J.P. Sweelinck, Q. van Blankenburg, C.F. Hurlebusch, J. Pachelbel, J.-F. Dandrieu, J. Kuhnau, and D. da Bergamo. The organ in the Hoorn village church was built in the classical tradition by J.C. Scheuer and Son from Zwolle in 1857 and remains entirely in its original state. This concert demonstrates how well this beautiful organ lends itself to music from a wide range of stylistic periods. During his long career, Arie Abbenes was the city carillonneur of Utrecht, Eindhoven, Asten, Son, and Oirschot. He taught at the Netherlands Carillon School/Utrecht Conservatory and at the School of Music at Indiana University (USA). He currently works as a freelance carillonneur, carillon restoration consultant, and organist at various churches on Texel. Evelien Berbee has been a member of the D.E.K. Music Association in Den Hoorn for over 30 years. Through majorettes and drum band, she found her place within the orchestra, initially as a flautist, but for several years now as a percussionist. Phili Welten has been involved as narrator in numerous carillon and organ concerts in the Netherlands and Flanders. Location: Hoornderkerk, Kerkstraat Start: 3:00 PM The concerts are free. A voluntary contribution makes these concerts possible.
