Discover, together with the forester, what makes the De Slufter salt marsh area so special! From the salt-tolerant plants to the animals you'll encounter in this two-hour walking tour. You enter the part that is only accessible with an excursion. There is no path; you just stroll through the area. The guide knows the way and tells you about the history of the area along the way and introduces you to salty plants such as samphire and sea lavender. You also cross a (shallow) gully on the way, so boots are necessary. Or when the weather is nice, just take off your shoes! De Slufter is part of the National Park Dunes of Texel and is managed by Staatsbosbeheer. Start time: check the Ecomare website for the current times. The excursions last 2 hours.

If you are on Texel, you go to Ecomare! A visit to this center is fun and exciting for all ages. Enjoy the young seals in the sanctuary, view the seals in the permanent group above and below water and be amazed about everything that lives in the sea in the Sea Aquarium. The interactive exhibition Wonderlijk Wad (Wonderful Wad) leaves a deep impression; how special nature is. The Wadden Sea is a UNESCO World Heritage area for a reason! Birds in need are cared for in the Bird Shelter. There you will also see a group of gannets: impressive, beautiful seabirds. They share their enclosure with cormorants and shelducks. In the Whale Hall you stand between the gigantic skeletons of a sperm whale and a humpback whale and you discover what is meant by 'a treasure from the intestines of the sperm whale'. There is so much to experience! Buy your tickets in advance at www.ecomare.nl. Ecomare is open daily from 9.30 am - 5 pm (except Christmas Day and New Year's Day). The office closes at 4.30 pm.
