Living in a turf hut
The grandmother of Ecomare employee Ingrid Uitgeest was born in a turf hut in the dunes of Texel. She lived there until she was six years old, together with her parents and five brothers and sisters. Just a century ago! What was it like to live in such a self-made construction of turf? Come to the sod hut in the Duinpark near Ecomare and experience it for yourself. Free for visitors to Ecomare. Opening hours: Ecomare is open every day from 09:30 am -5 pm (except Christmas Day and New Year's Day). The box office closes at 4:30 pm.

A short distance outside De Koog in the dunes near paal 17, you will find the nature museum and seal sanctuary Ecomare. seals If you want to see a seal up close, this is possible in Ecomare. The seals are fed at 11 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. During the feeding, everything is told about the seals that live in Ecomare. You can also admire other sea creatures in Ecomare.
