Thursday 29 May 2025 On Ascension Day, 29 May, the Oudheidkamer celebrates its 70th anniversary. The museum in the centre of Den Burg opened its doors for the first time in June 1955 and such an anniversary cannot go unnoticed! The Oudheidkamer is free to enter on 29 May from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and there are all kinds of activities. A good reason to visit the museum on this day. The Oudheidkamer is full of stories; both about the special showpieces from the collection and about the many everyday objects. On 29 May, volunteers will be present all day to share these stories with visitors. In short flash presentations, they put the spotlight on an object. Of course, visitors can also ask questions about other objects. The herb garden behind the house looks beautiful again. The volunteers have made spreads with the herbs, which they present to visitors in a tasting. Home-made jelly can also be tasted. The garden is also a beautiful setting for a photo. A Polaroid camera is available especially for this day. If you visit with multiple generations, you can have your photo taken together. If desired, the volunteer can also do this with the visitor's own smartphone. The famous tearjerker 'De Lotgevallen van Kees' hangs in the kitchen of the museum. At 11:30 and 15:30 Manon Schooneman sings the eleven-verse story about the drunkard from De Cocksdorp who outlived many wives. When radio and record players were still a thing of the future, the tunes came from a music box. In the upper room of the Oudheidkamer there is a still working copy; one of the showpieces of the museum. The volunteers will regularly turn it on during the day. The exhibition Playing with the past on the upper floor of the Oudheidkamer is also definitely worth a visit. Not only to enjoy the old toys, but also to play a game of snakes and ladders, to put together the picture on the block puzzle or to make a puppet show yourself. Not only children like this! The anniversary party of the Oudheidkamer coincides with the Culture Market in Den Burg. Make it a cultural holiday and combine a visit to the event and the museum!
