Jesus, why?

Wednesday, May 13, 2026 Entertainer and writer Bastiaan Ragas and theologian/pastor Ad van Nieuwpoort are coming to Texel with the show *Jesus, Why?* In an evening full of stories, conversations, and a few songs, they take you on their personal journey through the Bible. Whether you are religious, curious, or critical: the show is intended to surprise, amaze, and inspire. The well-known Bible stories are given a fresh perspective and show why they can still mean something today – if you are open to it. **Two backgrounds, one fascination** Ragas and Van Nieuwpoort met by chance in Bloemendaal, but their backgrounds are very different. Bastiaan was raised Catholic, while Ad comes from a Reformed tradition. What connects them is their fascination with the Bible. Bastiaan read the Bible together with Ad for four years, after which countless conversations followed about big questions: what gives life value, substance, and meaning? Those conversations led to the book *Jesus, Why?* and later to the performance of the same name. On stage, the interplay is that of two passionate friends: Ad as theological guide, Bastiaan as storyteller and singer. Their approaches differ, but the core of the story is the same. Touching, moving, and surprising According to Bastiaan, visitors often react enthusiastically to the accessible way in which content and humor come together. Many people go home touched, moved, and surprised. The goal of the evening: to lay the content of the Bible on the table and walk around it together, so that you can look at those centuries-old stories with a fresh perspective. Tickets: €5 in advance via iris@abcredactie.nl, very limited availability at the door.

Doopsgezinde Gemeente

This Mennonite church is located on the edge of the center of Den Burg. The church dates from the 18th century and was originally built as a shelter church. Every Sunday the service of the Baptist congregation takes place in this church. History From about 1530 there were Mennonites on Texel. In 1742 Den Burg had two Mennonite churches, namely a Frisian one on the Kogerstraat and a Flemish-Waterland one on the Nieuwstraat; the latter was sold in 1772. In 1882 the church was expanded, with the foundation stone being laid by Herman Bakels on July 15 of that year. Monument In 1976 the church was included in the register of monuments as a national monument. Strender Vermaning In addition to the church in Den Burg, there was also a Mennonite church at Peperstraat 26 in Oosterend. This is currently the Strender Vermaning, the foundation is committed to managing, preserving and exploiting the former church.
