Ukrainian officer sings
Friday, September 25, 2026 Ukrainian musician Yuri returns to De Vermaning in Den Hoorn. With his warm, powerful voice, he sings Ukrainian folk songs about nature, love, and his homeland. He accompanies himself on the harmonica. Yuri served as an officer in the army for three years. His desire to return to the Netherlands and make music kept him going during that period. He already performed at De Vermaning in April, and now he returns for a new concert. He will also sing several songs together with Joke van der Weide, his Dutch hostess, singer, and choir conductor. Admission is free. A voluntary contribution is welcome, preferably in cash. The entire proceeds will go to Yuri. Due to the garden path and the threshold, De Vermaning has limited accessibility for wheelchairs. Pets are not allowed. This church is well hidden: from the road you have no idea that there is a church on Diek. This is due to its history, De Vermaning was built as a hidden church for the Mennonite congregation. Access through a secret gate The gate of Diek 11 gives you access to the path that takes you to the church. The church is hidden behind a row of houses and in the backyard of Diek 11, as it were. Exhibition space The church is no longer used for services of the Baptist congregation. It is now a place where exhibitions and activities are organized.
