Historic walk - Aagje Luijtsen

Walk in the footsteps of Aagje Luijtsen! Aagje lived in Den Burg in the 18th century and was the wife of a VOC captain. She wrote him extensive and loving letters about her life on Texel. Nineteen of these letters have been preserved and can be seen in the Antiquity Room. During this walk, go back to the eighteenth century and see which places and buildings played a role in Aagje's life. The walk is free for visitors to the Oudheidkamer Texel museum. Start time: every Wednesday in August at 12.00, register at the museum from 11.00 am.

Oudheidkamer

Oudheidkamer

The smallest museum on Texel is located in one of the oldest houses on the island. In the middle of Den Burg! Step back in time in the former guest house from 1599. The Old Dutch interior takes you to how people used to live. They slept in box beds, the water came from the pump, boiled over an open fire. His wealth was displayed with trinkets from distant lands. The basement is stocked with stock for the winter; everything was canned. Behind the house is a small paradise: a beautiful herb garden. Sit on the bench and enjoy this green oasis in the sun. The Oudheidkamer is open from April 1 to October 31.
