Summer evening concert in Roman Catholic church Den Burg
This summer, too, the Zomerkerk is organizing weekly concerts in various churches on Texel. For thirteen evenings. Tuesday, June 23, 2026 Guitarist Auke Hofstra and flutist Loes Bakker present a classical concert with worldly influences. After the electric guitar and experimental music, Auke Hofstra also turned his attention to acoustic music with guitars tuned in the DADGAD, inspired by his introduction to Ireland. Loes Bakker has been organizing the Irish Festival on Texel for 25 years and plays the tin whistle, Irish wooden flutes, and various bagpipes in addition to the transverse flute. Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Tonight in the Roman Catholic Church in Den Burg, Jooske van Andel (clarinet) and Michelle Sweegers (harp) will perform. The duo presents music in which harp and clarinet come together in a unique soundscape. The program features well-known and lesser-known compositions, supplemented by original music by Michelle Sweegers. The concert begins at 8:15 PM. There is limited seating capacity and a voluntary cash contribution is requested afterwards. R.K. Parochie
This is the main church of the R.K. parish Texel and also the largest church of this community. The Johannes de Doper church can be found just outside the center of Den Burg. Weekly church service The celebrations in this church are usually on Sundays at 10:00 AM. Reconstruction In 1572 another church was looted by the Watergeuzen. The R.K. built its own church here in 1573. The present church was built in 1862-1863. And there is even more history: there are three chandeliers in the church, two of which date from the 17th century.
