The Green Beach is a national project with two goals: creating space for nature on the beach and telling the story of nature on the beach. The beach seems to consist only of sand, but many millions of critters live under and in the sand. Did you know that there are about 8 million critters under your beach towel? Birds also belong to the beach. Due to the increasing recreation, it has become too busy to breed. That is why several breeding beaches have been cordoned off on Texel. Thanks to these breeding beaches, it is possible to increase the populations of beach brooders again. Another interesting phenomenon: the food on the beach comes from the sea. At high tide it washes up on the beach and every time we have to wait and see what will wash up in terms of seaweed and other things. It makes the beach a dynamic and special ecosystem where many visitors relax in ignorance. So it's a good idea to go on an expedition with one of these very enthusiastic Green Beach Guides!
