Hoornder church is 600 years old. A milestone! The charming little church in Den Hoorn is perhaps Texel's most photographed building. This year, the iconic church is in the extra spotlight. Next weekend, the anniversary will be kicked off with festive activities.
On Sunday 25 May, the anniversary will start with a festive church service with the cooperation of music association DEK and the Texel choir Amici Cantus. Later that day, the Texel Jazz Band Eline will give a festive jazz concert. On Sunday 29 June, Amici Cantus, conducted by Lida Wels, will give another special concert. That day's programme offers a varied selection of religious and secular music, from around 1425 to the present day.
In the autumn, Zilte Zaken will publish an anniversary book on 600 years of Hoornder church. A beautiful reference work brimming with stories, photos and historical facts. The book will cover not only the construction and history of the little church, but also the people who touched it: from pastors to residents and artists. It will be a tribute to a building that has been the heart of Den Hoorn for centuries. Keep an eye on the jubilee site for the latest news!
This summer you can take part in a photo competition in which - how could it be otherwise - the Hoornder kerkje is in the leading role. So do you have a nice photo of this iconic building? Keep it safe or go out with your camera soon. Participants will have a chance to win great prizes, such as the aforementioned book.
Den Hoorn's little church is not only photogenic - with its white tower rising above the village - it also has a rich history. Ever since 1425, this building has stood literally and figuratively at the centre of the community. It has weathered storms, wars and changes. And still it is a place where people gather: for church services, concerts and now, therefore, for a big anniversary.
