Restaurant RJ received “two glasses” from Wine Spectator this week. Wine Spectator is an American lifestyle magazine focusing on wine, wine culture and wine reviews.
Wine Spectator annually honours restaurants with exceptional wine programmes. Two Glasses is like two stars, but for wine. The highest score a restaurant can receive is three glasses. Last year, RJ received the rating of one glass.
Restaurant RJ is located near De Robbenjager, under the smoke of the lighthouse. RJ is not only a restaurant, but also a wine bar. You can choose from more than 350 quality wines. The staff at Restaurant RJ can tell you everything about wine and know exactly which wine goes well with which dish. Chef and sommelier Jordy Schuijl works a lot with Texel products or products from the region. This makes pure, recognisable flavours come into their own in surprising dishes. Outside the menu, you can choose the 4, 5, 6 or 7-course chef's menu.
RJ Restaurant has been broadening its selection of mainly wines from classic, European countries in recent months, so that “new” wine regions, for example in America, can also be featured more. Jordy Schuijl thinks that the well-developed specialism as well as the commitment to grow and broaden will have appealed to Wine Spectator's judges.
