Climb the lighthouse at the northernmost tip of the island and enjoy the beautiful view! It's quite a climb: six flights of stairs and 118 steps, but the reward is great. Once at the top, you look out over the North Sea, Wadden Sea, the northern part of Texel and nearby Vlieland. In clear weather you can see tens of kilometers away! On the way up you will discover the turbulent history of the tower. After being badly damaged at the end of World War II, a new cloak was built around the original tower. The inside with the beautiful cast iron stairs dates from 1864, the outside is from 1947. On the fourth floor you can walk between the old and the new wall and you can see the bullet holes. For more information and entrance prices, visit the website (vuurtorentexel.nl). Dogs and pushchairs are not allowed into the tower. There is no elevator in the tower. The path to the lighthouse is barrier-free. Wheelchair users can reach the lighthouse.
