You can visit various monuments on Texel all year round. View them on the outside, or check our calendar when they are open. The second weekend of September, additional monuments open during the Open Monument Day.

A farmhouse with a special history. From 1786, the occupation history of the stolp seems to be reasonably documented. During World War II, there were people in hiding in the stolp, then used as a barn. Address: Watermolenweg 2, Den Hoorn.
Take a look inside Den Hoorn’s tiny church; it also features a very special church bell.
10 a.m. - 1.00 p.m. - Kerkstraat 5 Den Hoorn
The bunker played an important role during the Georgian Uprising. Most bunkers were demolished after the war. Texla was the most robust and remained standing. Address: Kogerweg 132, Den Burg.
Mill de Traanroeier is a still working grain mill, where even pancakes are baked from the flour processed in the mill. It is not normally free to visit, but between 12:00 and 16:00, only during Open Monument Day, you can visit this mill for free. Entrance is via Barentszstraat.
This country mansion still features all the “mod cons” installed by its owner – in 1787.
10 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. - Skillepaadje 18 Oudeschild
There are no parking facilities at this location, so please come on foot or by bike.
In the 18th century, this garden was an attraction, famous for its fruit and vegetables. Its original design is still visible today.
Guided tours leave every 30 minutes between 10 a.m. and 4.00 p.m. - Skillepaadje 18 Oudeschild
Watch how they make cheese in the dairy and visit the farm shop, the living room, the opkamer (half-storey room) with its bedstede (closet bed) and the cellar of this historic stolp farmhouse.
11.00 p.m. - 2.30 p.m. - Westergeest 4 Den Burg
A visit to this barn will reveal life as it was for a farmer’s family; come and listen to the unique stories from different eras in this building’s past.
10 a.m. - 4 p.m. - Lage Achterom, behind Herenstraat 47 Den Hoorn
View this authentic Texel farm, built in 1837; it has been said that it once housed a pub for sailors and other people from the ships in the Texel Roadstead.
11 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. - De Ruyterstraat 130 Oudeschild
This farmhouse has not been used for agricultural purposes since 1962, when the building was restored with lots of care, attention to detail and love; it is now used as a home.
1.30 p.m. - 5 p.m. - Hallerweg 55 Den Burg
Visit this fort which was built by William of Orange in 1572. Later, in Napoleon’s time, it served as a temporary home for French soldiers, their families and their pets.
A custodian from Museum Kaap Skil will lead guided tours around; the tours start at the fort at 10.30 a.m. and (if enough there is enough interest) at 11.30 a.m. Both groups are limited to 25 visitors. Places cannot be reserved in advance.
Schansweg, near Oudeschild
A historic building which served as an auxiliary post office in 1881. After that, it served as a church institution and as a household school, among other things. During the war, it took care of the sick and then was a place where women gave birth. Currently, it is a residential house. Address: Kikkertstraat 15, De Cocksdorp
Visit a house that was sold to a civil-law notary in the 19th century, who converted it into a residential building with an urban garden. 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. - Weverstraat 99 Den Burg
This unexceptional door hides a former Baptist schuilkerk, a clandestine church, and its charming garden; now listed on the national historic buildings register, this church was used for religious activities until 1969.
10 a.m. - 17.00 p.m. - Diek 11a 5 Den Hoorn
The restoration work on the church and the organ will be explained during the guided tour. Tours start every 30 minutes.
10.30 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Kerkelijk centrum De Parel, Oesterstraat 11 Oosterend
Watch the millers at work and learn all about this ancient technology. The sails will be turning and there’ll be pancakes made with freshly milled flour.
10 a.m - 4 p.m. Visit via Museum Kaap Skil, Heemskerckstraat 9 Oudeschild
