In Oudeschild, the port of Texel, you will find the Kaap Skil museum. A visit to the Kaap Skil museum in Oudeschild on Texel is an experience; there is plenty to do. The exhibitions are about shipping, fishing, maritime history and finds recovered from shipwrecks. In the open-air museum behind the entrance building you can experience Oudeschild as it used to be. The Roads of Texel In the 17th century, ships were waiting on the Roads of Texel for a favourable wind to set sail. The world's largest model shows what that looked like. The model comes to life through light and sound effects. In the exhibition "Ship in Sight" you will learn everything about whalers, flute ships and warships. Fishermen's cottages At Kaap Skil, various fishermen's cottages have been reconstructed on the outdoor grounds. Do you want to know how people lived at the beginning of the 19th century? Step inside and find out. There are regular extra activities in the museum such as demonstrations of net mending, iron forging, spinning and rope making. Sailors' and beachcombers' stories are also told.
