Texel is inextricably linked to sheep. Not only are they an important part of agriculture and nature, but they also give our island that unique character that so many people come back for. De Hoge Berg is one of the most beautiful places for walking or cycling. Here you can see garden walls, sheep and differences in elevation that make the landscape so typical of Texel.
To preserve this valuable landscape and the sheep tradition, the De Hoge Berg Area Cooperative was recently established. This cooperative wants to actively purchase grassland so that there remains sufficient space for sheep farming and the characteristic Texel landscape is preserved.
Last weekend, the crowdfunding campaign kicked off with a special lunch at the Waddel on the Hoge Berg. This lunch was provided by various Texel restaurants: Bij Jef, 't Pakhuus, Oudeland Texel and De Smulpot. A wonderful example of how the local community is joining forces to support this initiative.
Anyone who wishes to can contribute via the crowdfunding campaign organised by Gebiedscoöperatie de Hoge Berg. You can adopt a piece of Hoge Berg or invest in return for a modest interest payment. For 7.50 per m² (with a minimum of 2 m²), you can adopt your own piece of Hoge Berg. You will receive a certificate stating the number of square metres you have adopted. From 20 m² onwards, you will also receive a nice extra reward. This way, you not only contribute to the preservation of the Texel landscape, but you also receive something tangible and typical of Texel in return.
Together, we can ensure that the sheep, the garden walls and the centuries-old cultural landscape are preserved. In this way, we can ensure that future generations can also enjoy this unique part of Texel.
