The two Texel stages of the Noord-Hollandpad now have their own video. You see the landscape and hear the stories of people who live, work, and walk along the route.
Nature guide and caterer Sabien Bosman explains in the video what Wadden Gold is, where she finds it, and how she uses it in her dishes. Her story shows that the landscape along the route is not only beautiful to walk through. Those who look closely will also discover local ingredients and knowledge passed down from generation to generation.
At the Eierlands Canal, you will meet Henk van der Star. He talks about his sheep and the cable ferry he has been managing since 2009. He also shares his experiences with walkers he encounters on the dike. The ferry forms a special part of the first stage: you pull yourself across the canal using a rope.
Curator Alec Ewing of Museum Kaap Skil takes you back to the time when ships lay at the Texel Roadstead. He explains how ships were supplied with water during the VOC era and the role the Skillepaadje played in this. This historical path is part of stage 2. Thus, here you walk not only through the Texel landscape but also along a route that was already in use centuries ago.
Do you want to set off on your own after watching and listening? The first stage runs from De Cocksdorp to De Waal. View the route of the North Holland Trail on Texel and download the route description before departure. Stage 2 continues from De Waal towards the ferry port and Den Helder.
