The Wool Cathedral wins the 2026 Texel Culture Prize

Ericka Voortman and Cees-Aris Trap’s Wool Cathedral has won the Texel Culture Prize 2026. More than two hundred people contributed to the art project. Together, they created a large installation made of spun and knitted sheep’s wool.

Many hands, one work of art

The work demonstrates what can be created when many people work together on a single idea. People spun, knitted and assembled a large wool installation. This makes the project not only a work of art by Ericka Voortman and Cees-Aris Trap, but also a work to which many people on the island have contributed. The installation was given a home in a disused church in Oosterend.
