Want to bring your own horse on holiday with you to Texel? It couldn’t be simpler!


The ferries to Texel have spacious car decks you can easily drive on to with your car and trailer. Between 06:30 and 21:30, ferry operator Teso provides hourly crossings from Den Helder to Texel. The crossing only takes 20 minutes. From Texel, the ferry sails to Den Helder on the hour at hourly intervals between 06:00 and 21:00. On busy days, Teso runs a second ferry and operates a half-hourly service. Advance booking is not possible.

Trailers have priority

You will never have to wait long at the ferry when towing a horse trailer with your horse(s). Passengers transporting animals in trailers have priority over other holiday traffic and, where possible, can sail on the next crossing.


A crossing to Texel by car with horse trailer is not expensive; you pay per metre. From Friday to Monday inclusive, the rate is € 7.80 per metre. What’s more, you can take advantage of discount rates when travelling to Texel on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. On those days, you pay a discount rate of € 5.80 per metre. For example: if your car plus trailer is 10 metres long, you pay € 78.00 at the highest rate and € 58.00 at the discount rate.
