Are you spending your autumn break on Texel? That's great, because there's lots of fun to be had on the island! Here are a few tips for the two weeks of autumn break.
On 15 and 22 October, there will be a lively autumn market in Den Burg from 11:00 to 17:00. The market will feature stalls selling local products, music, art and entertainment for young and old.
The autumn market in De Waal will be held on 19 October from 11:00 to 14:00. Come and browse through second-hand and homemade products or visit the stalls with delicious food.
On 23 October, from 12:00 to 17:00, there will be the Hoornder Donderdag market in the Herenstraat in Den Hoorn. An atmospheric, interesting market where there is plenty to see and buy. From Texel products to curiosities.
National Museum Week runs from 11 to 19 October. The theme is “Experience Art”. Hundreds of museums throughout the Netherlands will open their doors and organise special events and exhibitions. During Museum Week, you can visit the museum for free with someone else's Museum Card. For example, visit Museum Kaap Skil, Museum Waelstee or the Oudheidkamer.
During the Night of the Night on 25 October, the Village Committee of Den Burg is organising a light tour through the old part of the village. With a procession of children and adults, we will walk through the dark streets, illuminated by a light. Will you join us? We will meet between 7 and 7.30 p.m. at the Groeneplaats.
17 to 20 October is Dutch Birding weekend! Organised by the Bird Information Centre, this weekend is all about bird watching, with lots of excursions. There is also a Swarovski binoculars show where you can try out all the new models. There are lectures and a prize for whoever spots the rarest bird species this weekend.
Are you ready for the Slufter Experience? Jumping, crawling, searching, tasting and fishing. On 25 October, you can go on a discovery tour in De Slufter nature reserve with the whole family! De Slufter is one of the most unique nature reserves on Texel. The sea extends quite far inland, which has a major impact on the plants and animals that live there. With dip nets, you can search for the animals that live in the water.
On 16, 17 and 18 October, you can go on a discovery tour through the edible nature garden. There is a surprising amount to discover for both parents and children. Who will see, know and learn the most? Upon registration, you will receive a route booklet containing the route and 10 assignments. There are many edible plants in the edible nature garden, but not everything is always edible, so knowledge is required. A challenge for young and old alike.
