7 tips for a long weekend break on Texel

Wouldn't it be nice to get away? Why not extend your weekend by a day and enjoy more time on Texel?

And remember, the weekends close to public holidays are great for a long weekend on Texel too. We have listed the best tips here for you:

Local guide Marcel will introduce you to the inhabitants of De Slufter on this excursion. Adventures guaranteed!

2. Visit a museum

Why not visit one of Texel’s museums? Flora, the Maritime and Beach-Combing Museum, and Ecomare are opened daily so a visit is a great idea for a long weekend on Texel.

3. Visit a viewing point

Texel has a number of spots the offer beautiful views of the island. A well-known spot is Fonteinsnol viewing tower. At the top, you’ll have a 360-degree panoramic view of the woods and the dunes. Other spots include the bunker at Den Hoorn, the steps at De Slufter, Bertusnol, and the IJzeren Kaap, all of which are accessible to the public.

4. Den Burg’s weekly market

Have a pleasant stroll around the market in the centre of Den Burg and climb the church tower, which is open every Monday morning (at Easter and Whitsun, it is open on Tuesday morning).

5. Brush away those cobwebs!

There’s plenty of time for a good, long walk along the beach and through the dunes if you are here for a long weekend. And afterwards, you can relax with a mug of hot chocolate or a tankard of Texel beer at a beach café.

6. Visit our villages

Texel has 7 villages, and they all have their own distinctive character. Perhaps it’s too much to visit all the villages in one weekend, but if you extend you weekend by another day, you can visit all the pretty ones.

7. Discounts on your ferry fare

TESO charges a lower rate for travelling from Den Helder on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The day of the outward journey determines the price; you can make the return journey any time you like.

If this has inspired you to get away for a bit, have a look at our range of overnight accommodation!
