There are various hotspots for windsurfers and kite surfers around the island, both along the North Sea side and on the Wadden coast. Wave surfers are mainly active along the beaches of De Koog. There are limited options for water skiing at Oudeschild. Catamaran sailors can also sail around Texel to their heart's content.
Are you coming to Texel with your own boat? Then you can go to Waddenhaven Texel. This modern harbor has many facilities and offers berths for small and large yachts.
Texel is one of the most beautiful catamaran locations in the Netherlands. In June, it hosts the “Ronde om Texel”, the world's largest catamaran sailing race. Both amateur sailors and the international sailing elite take part in this spectacular race.
For an adrenaline kick, try surf kayaking or surf rafting. These activities are ideal for group outings, but during the summer holidays you can also take part individually at Paal 9 or Paal 17.
The seawater around Texel is of excellent quality. Swimming is permitted along the entire North Sea beach, with the exception of the area between Paal 31 and 33 due to strong currents. During the summer months, beach posts 9, 12, 15, 17, 19, 20, 21, 28 and 33 are guarded by lifeguards. There are also several swimming pools on the island.
