Winter on Texel

The winter is a very special time on Texel. The first of the winter months are full of activities, but January and February are quieter, and so the ambiance on the island is more intimate and peaceful.

Discover the genuine side of Texel

Meet the locals and discover life on Texel in the winter. Come and see for yourself how dark nights on Texel really are and enjoy this fantastic opportunity for stargazing.

Everybody out!

The winter still has plenty of beautiful days for outdoor activities: a walk in the country followed by a pint of tasty Texel beer or hot chocolate in front of a roaring fire. Don't you want to experience that too? Even in this season, there are excursions under the guidance of nature wardens to De Geul, De Mokbaai, etc. Texel nights suffer very little from light pollution and that makes stargazing such fun here on the island! Texel's Volkssterrenwacht De Jager regularly hosts special viewing evenings in the observatory at Ecomare.

Skating on Texel

Okay, it doesn't happen often. But when it's cold enough to skate on Texel, there's fun for everyone. Several villages have skating rinks but there are also a number of places suitable for skating on natural ice out in the country. One of the first places to freeze is the boggy wildlife area of Waal en Burg, north of Den Burg.
