Travel to Texel by public transport?

By train to Den Helder

Getting to Texel by train, bus and TESO boat is easy by public transport. Departure times are coordinated so you travel to Texel without any hassle. From Nijmegen and Maastricht, intercity trains go via Utrecht and Amsterdam to Den Helder.

Profitable travel by train

By bus to the ferry

At the train station in Den Helder, board bus line 33 to the TESO ferry port. You pay here easily with OVpay (debit card, credit card or mobile) or your OV-chip card. The return trip is free. At the ferry port in Den Helder, buy a boat return ticket at the TESO ticket office. Handy, because you don't need to buy a ticket for the ferry back. The bus is waiting for you when you leave the ferry on the right-hand side.

From the ferry to Den Burg or De Koog

If you want to travel on Texel by Connexxion bus, leave the ferry on the right-hand side. From the bus station at the ferry port, you can travel to Den Burg (stop Elemert) or De Koog with bus line 28. This bus connects with the usual timetable of the TESO ferry but also the so-called intermediate boats. You pay for your journey on the Connexxion bus or the Texelhopper per kilometre using a debit card or OV-chip card. It remains possible to buy separate travel tickets (the ride or day ticket). Those who buy a separate ticket on the Connexxion bus pay for it with the driver by debit or credit card. Children up to 11 years travel free on both the regular buses and the Texelhopper bus.

With the Texelhopper to other stops on Texel

For all other stops on the island you travel with the Texelhopper. The Texelhopper buses run from the first to the last ferry. So you can always be transported with Texelhopper from and to every regular ferry.There are about 200 recognizable stops on Texel. An overview of the stops can be found on www.texelhopper.nl/en/. So you can always travel with Texelhopper to and from any regular ferry. When booking for the Texelhopper buses via www.boeking.texelhopper.nl or the Texelhopper app, you can pay with credit card. You can also pay in the Texelhopper bus.

Order Texelhopper in advance

The Texelhopper must be ordered at least half an hour beforehand - via www.texelhopper.nl/en/, the Texelhopper app or by telephone (+31 (0) 222-784000). When making a reservation, you will indicate where your nearest departure point is. Each stop has its own name and a number that can be seen on the stopping posts at the pick-up point. Please state where you want to go at the time of booking.

Back to the train

Upon arrival at the ferry terminal in Den Helder you can board the train to the train station without showing a ticket; this ride is free. Leave the boat on the right and walk to the nearby bus stop. Because the bus must connect to the departure times of the train, travelers are expected to quickly walk to the bus and get on easily at one of the 3 opened doors.
