At the train station in Den Helder, take bus number 33 to the ferry port. You can buy a Texelhopper ticket for this bus for € 3.00 from the Connexxion desk in Den Helder. Alternatively, you could buy one from the bus driver when you get on the bus. Make sure that you keep this ticket, because it's valid until you reach your final destination on Texel. If you won't be travelling by bus when you reach Texel, you will find that it's cheaper to use a public transport chip card to pay for your ticket on bus number 33. You can buy a return ticket for the ferry at the TESO desk at the ferry port in Den Helder. Please note that you won't be able to use a public transport chipcard on Texel.
When you arrive on Texel, you can take bus number 28 to travel from the ferry port to Den Burg or De Koog. The Texel bus terminal is on the right-hand side. Perhaps your destination is not on the line 28 route. Then when arriving on Texel you can board a smaller Texelhopper minibus. You have to book your journey in the Texelhopper minibus at least an hour in advance. When booking be sure to indicate not just your destination on Texel, but also the fact that you will be boarding at the ferry terminal. You can book through the www.texelhopper.nl website or by phone on 0222-784000. Show your Texelhopper ticket to the driver when boarding the bus.
Do you also want to return to the ferry terminal or station by bus? Line 28 takes the same route back. A bus ticket costs € 3.00. You won't need to buy a ticket for the ferry; the ticket you buy for the ferry service is always a return ticket and you won't be asked to show it when you leave the island. When you arrive at the ferry port in Den Helder, you will find that you are able to take the bus to the train station without showing a ticket; this trip is free. To use this service, take the exit on the right hand side of the ferry and walk to the bus stop, which you will find nearby. Because the bus needs to tie in with the departure times for the train, travellers are expected to walk to and board the bus quickly, using one of the three doors available.
You can only use a public transport chip card or bank card on lines 28/828, cash payments are not possible. Do you want to travel by train from Den Helder? There are certainly several top-up/recharge points for the OV chipcard on Texel:
• Sigarenwinkel Van der Vis, Weverstraat 4 Den Burg
• Albert Heijn Supermarkt, Waalderstraat 48 Den Burg
• Plus Supermarkt, Kikkertstraat 11-13 De Cocksdorp
• Primera Mets, Dorpsstraat 84 De Koog • NS ticket automat at the ferry terminal.
You will find a detailed explanation, the schedules and all the stops at www.texelhopper.nl.
