Summer on Texel

Texel is dazzling in the summer: there are summer markets, exciting excursions, events and inviting sidewalk cafés. You can relax on one of the wide stretches of beach or swim in the sea, and daydream in the hot sand. To end a pleasant day at the beach, watch the sun go down in all its glory while you sip a cool drink at a beach café.

Tips for summer

There's never a dull moment on Texel in the summer, either. Discover how wonderful and versatile Texel is! Here are a few tips for the summer.

Nature in summer

Get on your bike or put your walking boots on and go out into nature! Texel has an extensive network of walking paths and cycle paths that will lead you to the prettiest spots. Enjoy the millions of orchids in the wildlife areas and even along the side of the road. De Slufter, which is connected to the sea, is well worth a visit in the summer too. The salt-loving plants, such as sea asters and sea pinks, cover the ground with lovely shades of lilac and purple in the summer months.

Excursions

The summer is the very best time for activities like mudflat-walking or going on a shrimp cutter. Other excursions, led by a guide, will take you to wildlife areas such as De Geul and De Muy.

The beach

Perhaps the most popular features of Texel are its large, broad stretches of beach: some 30 kilometres of white sandy beaches are waiting for you. Each beach has its own ambiance. Some are favourites with people who like peace and quiet while the beaches around De Koog offer plenty of sports options. The major entrances to the beaches are manned by lifeguards in the summer. The sea around Texel is clean and suitable for a cooling dip! Read more about Texel's beaches.

Festivals and events

All sorts of events and festivals are held here in the summer, including the catamaran race - the Round Texel Race - Sompop, Uitmarkt Buitengewoon Texel and the Havenvisstijn.
