Sterrenhemel op het strand

Enjoy the dark

Have you ever explored Texel in the dark? On our island, dark really is dark, because there is light only where it is needed. Although it gets harder to see things, there is still plenty to experience!

Evening walk

There are plenty of walking routes on Texel. You can walk them during the day, but why not in the evening too? Stroll through the empty streets and enjoy the clear starry sky. A fun option is the night walk from Ecomare, which you can walk with an audio tour! The audio tour can only be listened to in Dutch and French.

Excursions

There are also excursions that take place at night, namely 'Secrets of the Night' from Ecomare and 'Night excursion with Txgids'. You will learn more about Texel's nightlife from nature during these walks. The excursions are not available all year round, so be sure to keep an eye on our calendar! This will keep you up to date on other activities you can do in the evening, e.g. the lighthouse is sometimes open in the evening.

sea sparkle

Ever heard of sea spark? During warm summer evenings, there is a chance that sea sparkle is present in the sea. Sea sparkle is an alga that gives off light, and when it is dark this can be quite magical. This is because the seawater then seems to have a blue luminous glow about it.

Star gazing

As there is little light pollution, you can see the starry sky well in clear weather. There are several locations where you can best spot the stars, such as the beach, the Slufter and Molen 't Noorden windmill. In the winter season, you can also go to the observatory of Volkssterrenwacht De Jager next to Ecomare. At the observatory, astronomer are present who can answer your questions about what can be seen.

Accommodations

Want to sleep under the stars? There are several accommodations on Texel where this is possible, including Buytenplaats villas, the Just Watching Stars suite, a yurt by Texelyurts, and a holiday home at De Parel park.
