Wheelchair-accessible museums
Several museums on Texel are wheelchair-accessible. So you can discover the interesting past even as a disabled person.
If you are on Texel, you naturally want to see seals. In Ecomare, you can do so from very close by. However cute they may look, petting them is not smart. After all, seals are predators with real dog teeth. While feeding, the attendant tells about the peculiarities of each animal and the ideals of Ecomare, Europe's oldest seal sanctuary.
The museum and outdoor area are fully wheelchair-friendly. Wheelchairs and buggies can be borrowed at the entrance.
There is much to see and experience at the museum in the harbour town of Oudeschild. You can step inside fishermen's cottages from the old days, old seamen regularly give demonstrations of rope-making and fish-smoking, and learn all about the Rede van Texel, the illustrious VOC and sea heroes such as Michiel de Ruyter, who were once at home in Oudeschild.
The museum is largely wheelchair accessible. The museum has a lift that allows disabled people to reach the various floors.
A visit to the Aviation and War Museum Texel is not to be missed. Fly through aviation history and see Texel's war memories. Let yourself be carried along the many objects, models, photos and texts and watch the video presentations. You will be amazed by the information on offer. Even the youngest visitors are catered for.
The museum is wheelchair-friendly.
Behind the 1840s farmhouse Flora on Pontweg, between Den Burg and De Koog, houses the, as the beachcombers themselves say, "first, real and largest beachcomber museum in the world" the Maritime and Beachcomber Museum.
