Tips for the half-term holidays on Texel

During the spring break there is plenty to do on Texel for young and old! It's the perfect time for a relaxing family holiday.
We have collected our favourite tips for you, so you can explore the island to the fullest during the holiday.

1. The first lambs

Spring on Texel belongs to the lambs and with a bit of luck you can spot the first lambs during the spring holiday. As soon as the lambs are big enough they stay outside day and night. They don't get cold and this way they become big, strong Texel sheep. You can see lambs up close at Schapenboerderij Texel and schapenboerderij Westerweg near Den Hoorn.

2. Discover the Sunken Shipwreck

Discover the new experience at Museum Kaap Skil: The Sunken Shipwreck. Put on your diving goggles and explore the wreck of a 17th-century sailing ship! Everything is crooked and uneven, which is not surprising when you consider that you are on the seabed. You can carry cargo, lie down in the hammock and try on the clothes from the chest. By repairing the captain's map, you can figure out the ship's route. You can even crawl out of the shipwreck and do some archaeological research there, on the seabed!

3. Farmer's ice cream

From mid-February, you can enjoy an ice cream at IJsboerderij Labora or Novalishoeve. Delicious and self made scoop ice cream, made from fresh milk and cream from own dairy cows. Both farms have a fun play ground for the kids.

4. To the cinema

Is the weather not so good? Then check out what's showing at Cinema Texel! During the school holidays, you can choose from a variety of children's and family films. The cinema is located in the centre of Den Burg, so a visit can easily be combined with a shopping trip or an evening out for dinner.

5. Spot the snowdrops

In early spring, you can spot snowdrops in many places on the island. Especially in De Dennen you can spot these spring bloomers during a walk or bicycle ride.

Do you enjoy taking photos with your phone, but think they could be better? Then why not take the Smartphone Photography workshop! You will learn how to make sure you don't miss the moment, how to take the most beautiful macro photos (of flowers and insects) and where the best spots are for sunrise or sunset on Texel.

7. Taste Texel's products

From sheep's cheese to speciality beer and from chips to cakes: the island produces a huge range of traditional products. They are well worth tasting! You can buy them in farm shops or sample them in one of Texel's restaurants.
